DIGITAL COPIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE RATCLIFF AND SPEAKMAN FAMILIES
Scope and Content:
Comprises copies of

(i) photograph of Florence Louisa Speakman née Ratcliff (1867-1958) with (from left) her brother Harold Thomas Ratcliff (born 1876), a dealer in agricultural supplies who had emigrated to Argentina; her half-brother Arthur Francis Ratcliff (1882-1976), farmer, of The Shrubbery, Woodham Walter; her brother Stanley Oldfield Ratcliff (born 1878), farmer, of Brick House, Maldon; and her brother (Samuel) Charles Ratcliff (1870-1954), farmer;

(ii) photograph, taken on the same occasion, of Harold and Charles Ratcliff;

(iii) photograph in the form of a postcard of Charles Ratcliff as above, his wife Mary Ratcliff née Hutley and a girl in the garden of their home opposite Mowden Hall, Hatfield Peverel [where they themselves had previously farmed. The girl is probably Rosalind Ratcliff later Cousins (born 1936), eldest daughter of their son Geoffrey Ratcliff.]

Admin History:
Florence L. Speakman was the eldest daughter of Samuel Ratcliff of Maldon (born ?1836) and Mary Louisa Ratcliff née Darby (died 1880). In 1891 she married Samuel Speakman (1864-1921). By 1901 they lived and farmed at St Clere's Hall, Danbury, but after her husband's death she moved to New Road, Great Baddow, and later to 'Moyns', 19 Chelmerton Avenue, Great Baddow.
