Following the passage of the 1944 Education Act, Southend Education Committee embarked upon an expansion programme for primary schools. They decided to build a large school on the new Temple Sutton housing estate on Eastern Avenue and Temple Sutton Primary School opened in 1949. Four years later the school was divided into Infant and Junior Mixed Departments. This arrangement continued until 1988 when the departments amalgamated to form Temple Sutton Primary School.
