MICROFILMS OF RECORDS OF EASTWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Scope and Content:
Eastwood Board School opened in 1879. In 1903 it became known as Eastwood Council School. In 1934 a separate infants department was formed, leaving an all standard school known as Eastwood Mixed School.
In 1939 it was proposed that secondary pupils should be transferred to the newly-built Eastwood Senior School. However the outbreak of war prevented these changes from being made and the Junior School was closed and used as an A.R.P. First Aid Post. The school re-opened in 1945 as a primary school and new premises were built in the 1960s, consisting of separate schools for Juniors and Infants. The old premises, including the nineteenth-century schoolhouse, were demolished in 1972 to make room for the new extension to Eastwood High School for Boys.
