LANGENHOE, St Mary the Virgin
Admin History:
Philip Morant's History and Antiquities of the county of Essex (1763-1768), volume 1, p.417, gives the dedication of the church at Langenhoe as the Virgin Mary or St Andrew, and the latter has often been repeated in later writings without clear justification. When the former church was extensively damaged by an earthquake on 22 April 1884 the dedication to St Andrew was in general use. The church was rebuilt on the same site. By 1900 the dedication was clearly to St Mary and remained so until the church was demolished in 1962.

In 1961 Langenhoe was united with the parish of Abberton, St Andrew (D/CPc 387).
