Admin History:
The Regiment was raised by Sir Philip Honywood on 22 July 1715, in response to the Jacobite threat. It was a cavalry regiment, recruited from Essex and based at Colchester and fought in the Battle of Preston in September 1715. It had about 207 men in peacetime, rising to 552 in 1727 when war threatened. General Lord Mark Kerr became Colonel of the regiment. It fought in the Jacobite rebellion at the Battles of Clifton Muir, 1745 and Culloden, 1746. The regiment subsequently became the 11th Light Dragoons (1783-1840), 11th Hussars (1840-1969), Royal Hussars (1969-1992) and King's Royal Hussars (1992 onwards).
