On plate XXI, scale bar ‘Statute Miles 69½ to a degree / 4 miles’ [= 199 mm.] [c.1:32,000 or 2 inches to 1 mile (1:31,680)]

Very detailed map, the largest of the county at that date, with individual houses shown in countryside plus all roads and most tracks. In south east corner, cartouche, hanging over a tree in front of a fulling mill; above that, a cartouche with the 'List of subscribers', arranged alphabetically within societal standing. In north east corner, map of Harwich harbour, and to the west of that a map of Colchester.

Latitude and longitude from Greenwich, with one minute bars. Hundreds edge coloured and faintly colour washed.
