'Silver End Stories' oral history project
Scope and Content:
Oral histories recorded for the 'Silver End Stories' project between 2013 and 2014, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The interviews were conducted by Jackie Nesbitt and Sue Ellen.

The project recorded the memories, reminiscences and stories of people from Silver End; some still living in the village and others who had moved away during adulthood. Many worked at the Crittalls factory or other local businesses, such as John Carr's, ET Herons, and the Co-op.

The interviews cover a wide range of events, from the building of the first houses in Silver End in the late 1920s, shopping at the store, cooking without mains electricity, the impact of the Second World War, Rivenhall airfield, meeting evacuees from Edmonton, Polish refugees, going to the village school, playing in the fields, going to dances and the cinema, the 1952 Co-op fire, and sports such as football, cricket, tennis and badminton.
