Monumental inscriptions in the church and churchyard, 1485-1990 (church) and 1730-1992 (churchyard), recorded 1992.
Includes indexes of names, places in parish, other places in Essex, places outside Essex and occupations, with plans of church and churchyard.
Monuments in churchyard include memorials to Edith M. Goodlet, wife of Charles W. Goodlet of Commercial School, St Petersburg, who died and was buried at St Petersburg 1898; Captain Thomas D.L. Whittington 'who died of malaria on board transport "Sumatra" bound for S. Africa' 1900; Sarah Sell of St Albans Diocesan Nursing Institution who died 1890 'of fever taken from those whom she / came to nurse at the Union House, Orsett'; Elizabeth Lawler (died 1916) 'erected ... by her fellow employees at Kynock Works, Kynock Town'.
Monuments in church include brasses described after H. Martin Stuchfield's article in the Essex Journal 1992; will on brass [apparently not otherwise preserved] of Thomas Hotofte of Orsett, 1495, leaving land called Gouldwell in parish of 'Horndo'[n-on-the-Hill?] 'to bere owte the comon fyne of Orssett for ever' [the 'common fine' is probably the vill's share of a fine imposed on the whole county, in origin levied by the sheriff but payable to the lord of a court leet where such existed]; verse praising pastoral work of parson Robert King (died 1584); screen in memory of Admiral Charles Wright Bonham (died 1910) made from timbers of his former ship HMS Pique; fragment of pennon of 6th Cavalry Brigade carried for Lieut. Colonel Francis H.D.C. Whitmore during Battle of Amiens 1918; subscription list for memorial screens to Violet F.E. Whitmore (died 1927); memorial to Mr. Charlotte Baker (died 1818) wh left organ to church; plaque (682) recording officers [of re-formed Essex Yeomanry] 1901-1905; list of subscribers to restoration of tower 1610, including Valentine Carey, Dean of St Paul's [London] and rector; list of rectors (700); plaques recording endowment of coal charities by Mrs Sarah Bush 1825 and Jane Baker 1849, of bread charities by John Freeman esquire 1746, Dame Jane Trafford Southwell 1809, Jesse Newcome 1813, and Richard Baker esquire 1828, and of fund for cleaning and repair of monuments in chancel by Jane Baker 1849; plaque recording foundation by Elizabeth Dowsett 1807 of bread charity and charity for education of two girls; table of parish benefactors 1736; plaques recording bell-ringing by 'The Essex Association' [?of Change Ringers] 1913, 1959; plaque commemorating increase in church accommodation 1837.
