Scope and Content:
About 43 years old. Born in Grundisburgh, Suffolk. Aged 11 he went to work for his brother, Henry Rout, carpenter, of Great Oakley, who clothed, maintained, and lodged him until he was 14. Then hired for 2 years by Henry for the wage of £4 less lodgings and maintainance. Worked a further year with Henry for £5, then again a further year for £7. Received his full wages. Ceased working for Henry about 1805. Moved to Rochford in 1809 and worked with Thomas Waight, carpenter, of Rayleigh. At Michaelmas 1815 he rented a house from Thomas Waight for the rent of £8 per year. Rented the house for 3 years, before sub-letting the house to John Jeggins. After Jeggins moved out he moved back in, and lived there with Thomas Waight's widow. Then left the house and rented a house from John Albarth, of Rayleigh, for the rent of £7 per year. Rented the house for about 3 or 4 years.
