Admin History:
Marjorie McIntosh, in A community transformed. The manor and liberty of Havering, 1500-1620 (Cambridge University Press 1991), pp. 110, 392, dates this map to 1617/18, on the basis of its association with a list of Havering's 'principal tenants and inhabitants' prepared at that time (National Archives SP 14/94/100). In her words, 'the map displays the holdings of Havering's larger tenants, ignoring the question of whether they held directly of the Crown or as farmers' (p. 110). The surveying exercise was a prelude to the re-assertion of the Crown's rights within the liberty.
