VETERINARY AND MEDICAL RECIPE BOOK
Scope and Content:
Volume containing 40 formulas for medicines for horses and 24 for medicines for humans, with instructions on use; also 16 miscellaneous formulas and recipes, including barley sugar, hot cross buns, peppermint drink, dye for horses, and 'a spoon that will melt in hot tea'
The book was copied out by the depositor as a child.
Pasted in the front and back are notes by him describing this, and also descriptions of his father, Walter John Payne, who in the period round 1900 was a builder, carpenter and carter, with his home and business premises at the Mill House, Fobbing, and worked on Goldsmiths at Laindon Hills and Laindon Hills and Corringham Churches; also references to 'Glassbottle Houes' [? Fobbing]
At the back of the book are roughaccounts of W.J. Payne for carting work, c.1899
