Letters from Charles Clark to John Russell Smith, bookseller and publisher, of Ol Compton St., Soho (co. Middx.). Smith published a number of works printed (and some written) by Clark; on at least one occasion he also arranged for a work by Clark to be printed (see D/DU 668/3).

The letters are mainly concerned with Clark's purchases of books from Smith and sale by Clark to Smith of his own printings and other books. Lists of books sent are frequently given and mention made of P.H. Youngman, a Maldon bookseller who often acted as forwarding agent. Other recurring subjects including Smith's commissioning of tanscripts of rare books and MSS. for Clark, Clark's compositions and printing projects and his annul visits to Tiptree Races (25 July) and Maldon fair (13,14 Sept.)
