A radio ballad describing how Tilbury Docks has changed and some of the history of the men and ships; recording of the docking of the Jervis Bay; story of a previous Jervis Bay and its action in the Atlantic in 1940 - interview with former crew member; Master of the present Jervis Bay describing size of modern ships, containers, number of crew; creation of OCL (Overseas Containers Ltd.) in 1965; geographical location of Tilbury and its position in world trade, loss of London's trans-shipment business; history and development of docks and dockwork; description by dockers of casual labour, role of gangers, "bunce"; loss of dock work after containerisation in 1970; negotiation between employers and trades unions; demoralising effects of casual labour; de-casualisation; training for handling mechanical equipment; future of Tilbury; interviews with lorry drivers - waiting time.
