Scope and Content:
G.I Airmen in East Anglia: The story of American Airmen and their aircraft in East Anglia during the Second World War. A video tape compilation from the East Anglian Film Archive showing the airfields, aircraft and airmen of the United States Army Air Forces in East Anglia 1942-45. With commentary written and narrated by Roger A. Freeman, the video consists entirely of original 1940s archive film, most of it in colour.

Cover notes: 'Between 1942 and 1945, the U.S. 8th Air Force was stationed at airfields scattered across East Anglia. From these bases flew the B-17 Fortress and B-24 Liberator bombers, and the fighters that escorted them on their raids over Germany.

For British home movie makers, cine film was scarce in wartime, particularly colour film, but the American servicemen could obtain supplies from the U.S.A. With the generous help of the film makers, this video tells the story of the airfields and aircraft, the bombing missions, and the experience of the U.S. servicemen in East Anglia, both on and off duty. Films made by the airmen to show their families and friends are combined with excerpts from three official USAAF films of 1943: Combat America, Memphis Belle and Know Your Ally Britain.'
