SAMUEL COURTAULD AND COMPANY, SILKWEAVERS
Admin History:
Between 1983 and 1985 (the precise date is not known), Samuel Courtauld and Company Ltd became Courtaulds plc.
Courtaulds Textiles, the fabrics and clothing business, was demerged from Courtaulds plc in 1990. Courtaulds Textiles was taken over in 2000 by the American company Sara Lee, which sold it in 2006 to PD Enterprise of Hong Kong.
In 1998 Courtaulds plc itself was taken over by Akzo Nobel NV, a Dutch company, and renamed Akzo Nobel UK Ltd, the Courtaulds name remaining with Courtaulds Textiles. In 1999 Akzo Nobel sold its Acordis fibres business, including those parts acquired with Courtaulds plc, to CVC Capital Partners, a private equity firm. Courtaulds' industrial coatings business was retained by Akzo Nobel. Acordis was still owned by CVC Capital Partners in 2008, although some of its constituent businesses had been sold (www.akzonobel.uk.com and www.cvc.com, consulted 22 July 2008).
