Interview with Mr and Mrs Walker, the first people to take up residence in Basildon New Town in 1951. They talk about the official welcoming ceremony, being burgled, their feelings on being the first to move to the new town, which schools their children attended, and their views on Basildon. At the end of the recording there is a very brief interview with their seventeen year old daughter, Valerie.
