The fifteen artists were chosen by six guest selectors from across Southend’s alternative music and sonic-art scene including Emma Reed (musician, founder of Culture as a Dare!), Storm Johnson (broadcaster, DJ and journalist), George Morl (artist, curator, producer and gallery programmer), Hayley Hill (producer, project manager, Cool Thing Records) and Jo Overfield and Ray Morgan (Sundown Arts, This Must Be The Place).

Southend has a long and rich history of innovators working at the forefront of sound. From the development of EKCO radio to its alternative music scene, the many artists and practitioners working with sound continues to grow. Through the FPG programme, Focal Point Gallery aimed to support the works of these artists or groups as well as give new opportunities at a time when live works and venues continued to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

FPG Sounds was supported by Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants.
