Comprises two out of the three original volumes of notes, mainly ecclesiological, with special reference to heraldry and monuments.

For Richard Symonds (1617-1660) of Black Notley, antiquary, see the Dictionary of National Biography. His work was used by Nicholas Tindal, Nathaniel Salmon and Philip Morant in their histories of Essex, but the greater part of the material remains unpublished [1953].
