Scope and Content:
Josephine Melville reflecting on her mother and father, Edmund (Edwin) and Byrel Melville, in July 2020.

[00:00:00] Josephine describes how her parents came to London in the 1950s and met at a party in East London. Wanted a better life in the 'Mother Country'. Recalls sending a large barrel back to family in Jamaica, stocked with rice, oil, toiletries and clothes. Likens filling the barrel to locking away the 'hurt and the pain and unsatisfied feelings of what the real situation was here in London'. Comments on the bravery and resilience of her parents. Hopes to pass on not the 'locked barrel of regret', but a 'baton of empowerment'.
