DEDHAM GRAMMAR SCHOOL AND OTHER CHARITIES
Scope and Content:
Recites will of William Littlebury ('Lyttlebury') of Dedham, gentleman, 1571, devising messuage called Ragmershe in Bradfield and Wrabness and messuage called Brokes and Brusses in Bradfield to named trustees for maintenance of grammar school to be founded for education of the youth of Dedham, Ardleigh, Great Bromley, Bradfield and Stratford (Suffolk). Confirms and incorporates the 23 trustees as governors with the addition of John Worthe, vicar of Dedham.
Portrait in initial letter of Queen Elizabeth I enthroned, with crown, orb and sceptre, and marginal decoration of flowers, foliage, royal arms etc,. all in gold and colour.
Seal and cords cut off.

Unfolded, 565 x 675 mm. Decoration rubbed in places; fading and marginal nail holes suggest charter formerly displayed flat.
