23. Gaol Delivery held at the Moot Hall in [Saffron] Walden on 11 January 41 Eliz.

Margaret wife of Thomas hall of Hempsted labourer on 19 November 41 Elizabeth at Walden took a piece of "flacke and red linsie wolsey" containing 3/4 of a yard worth 5d. of Thomas Swalloee.

The same Margaret on 19 November at [Saffron] Walden took a yard of "greenesaye" worth 2d. of William Daniell. Guilty, to be whipped.

25. General Sessions of the Peace held at Chelmsford on 11 January 41 Elizabeth

John Furmynge of W. Thurrock miller and Henry Bowden of Aveley tailer on 10 September 40 Elizabeth at W.Thurrock took £70 of the money of James Humfrey in the house of John Buck.

Thomas Goodlad of Barking husbandman on 17 December 41 Elizabeth there took "fyve dosen of sylver buttons" and a badge worth 10s. and £4 5s. in money of William Gardner.

Gabriel Lucas of Mundon labourer on 30 October 40 Elizabeth there took a sheet worth 4s. and "a pyllawebeer" worth [illegible]s. of Thomas Harrys esq.

Richard Gaynesford of leigh labourer on 26 December 41 Elizabeth took four shirt bands worth 5s. and "a payer of sockinges" worth 2s. and £4 3s. in money of William Smyth.

William Sender of Mucking waterman on 3 December 41 Elizabeth at Corringham took two sheep worth 6s.8d. and two sheepskins worth 16d. of John Arnold.

All pleaded benefit of clergy, red, branded.

That Daniel Hewett on 5 November 40 Elizabeth, being a constable of Great Bentley, by virtue of a warrant from Thomas Lord Darcy and Edward Pyrton esq., arreste William Markant gentleman and John Phayse yeoman of Bentley aforesaid, to find suficient security for their good behaviour. But Markant in the cemetery of the church of Great Bentley drew his rapier upon the said Hewett and also attacked Edward Marven, another constable, while Phayse struck the same Marven with a cudgel.

155. View of Frankpledge of the manor of West Ham

on 12 June 40 Elizabeth Benion gentleman was ordered to place a bridge and steps in 6 acres of his land lying b his house and to make another bridge ad steps outside the aforesaid 6 acres in the field called Barking Stile and to make the same outside 2 acres of land belonging to le Syanybbes by the court to be held at Michaelmas next under pain of 6s.8d.
