Scope and Content:
Presentment by Hundreds of Lexden, Tendring, Winstree and Thurstable.

Anthony Whifhting. clerk, of Little Bentley for that he hath been presented at Midsummer Sessions, 1630, for threescore rood ditching which is not yet scoured, annoying the highway (and hath contined ever since).

William Eastwoods of the same for not scouring his ditches from Maeaningtree to Ipswich (next the highway there, for six months last past).

Edmond Estwode of the same for not cropping his trees and not making his ditches next the highway from Thorpe to Colchester for twelve months last past.

William Warren of Tendring for stopping a watercourse (in Little Bentlwy in the highway) leading from Little Bentley to 'Senttose' [St. Osyth] for twelve moths).

John Hunwick of Tolleshent D'Arcy, clerk, for that he has enclosed part of the highway to Little totham (six roods in length and one rood in breadth).(Discharged for insufficency)

John Keyes of Tolleshunt D'Arcy for annoying the highway (there leading from Tolleshent D'Arcy to Colchester) by logs (which he hath laid there for one year) (Vacat). (Discharged for insufficioney by the court).

Matthew Marvyn of Great Bentley (husbandman) for suffering 40 rods of the breck agaisnt the Hall meadow there to be unscoured for four months last past to the annoyance of the church path there lying in Hall meadow, also for annoying the highway here to weeley by laying 40 loads of muck therein for three months last past, also for not accouring 20 rods of his ditch next the highway there called the 'Moore Lane' for six moths last past, also for shooting in hand gun and killing four tame dovos in the churchyard, 20 May last.

Strange Chapman of Great Bentley husbd., for not scouring 50 rods of his ditch next the 'High Street Lane' there for twelve months last past.

Reynold Marvyn of Great Bentley, husbdn., for stopping up the water in the highway there from Bentley Church to Weeley and keeping it so stopped three months.

The same Reynold for shooting in a hand gun and killing two house deves, one September last at Bentley.

Abraham Commyns of Great Bentley to scour his brook there against 'Dareborkes Meadowe' one hundred rods (for 12 months last past).

George Nobell for stubbing up a great tree standing in the highway in Great Bentley "betwixt three tounes" (which was a mark for all passengers to travel to four towns, 2 May last).
